Our Client is currently seeking a Functional Services System Administrator to be based either inKabul, or atKandahar Air Field,Afghanistanwho will be responsible for the planning, maintenance and development of functional systems within a signals support group.
Reporting into the Chief of Information Systems the successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, configuration, upgrade, administration, monitoring and maintenance of all physical databases deployed on all security domains. You will be responsible for the synchronisation and replication of databases as required, user data migration as required, you will gather user requirements to design, develop, maintain, and test databases and will ensure data consistency/availability across databases.
You will work with a wide variety of databases, develop and conduct database maintenance practices/planning to include availability, performance, resilience, sizing, capacity, housekeeping, backups/storage strategy.
You will monitor usage, generate reports, identify and manage database security issues and will develop and conduct database user and administrator training as required.
Finally you will prepare and manage processes for reporting deficiencies and requesting changes to database components or systems and will prepare and maintain database system baseline documentation and procedures.
You should be an accomplished database specialist and have significant experience in administering operational databases in a production environment.
You will have in - depth experience of Microsoft (MS) SQL Server Administration, MS Access front-end and back-end programming, Oracle Database Administration and POSTGRESQL RDBMS Administration.
Your practical experience should ideally be supported by the completion of Communications Information Systems (CIS) Degree or completion of vocational training leading to a formal database related technical or professional certification.
You should possess excellent communication skills in English and excellent analytical skills and be able to adapt to rapid changes in a positive manner and work to tight deadlines.
Superb inter-personal skills and instant credibility are essential as you will be inter-facing with a number of people from different backgrounds, nationalities and religions.
Candidates should ideally have NATO Secret Clearance or their own national country security clearance.
The position is offered on a 1 year renewable contract renewable up to a maximum of 3 years. Please note in terms of nationality, Candidates must come from a NATO member country.
