Job Overview: A successful international petroleum exploration and production company with permits in North Africa and the Middle East are expanding and seek an Interpretation Geophysicist. This is an exciting position for an individual with a minimum of 3 years geophysical experience and seeking career progression.
The Company has a two-fold strategy, Firstly, to identify new venture opportunities, secure the licenses and work the assets with the objective of bringing these licences up to farm-out status. At the same time, the Company is actively pursuing the acquisition of medium sized hydrocarbon reserves and resources that compliment their technical expertise, for the purpose of development. The Company has made recent discoveries in Morocco and Egypt and is entering a production phase in both operated and non-operated acreage.
Working along side a cross-functional highly experienced geosciences team, you will participate in the Company’s exciting portfolio of exploration ventures. You will undertake a variety of roles such as the interpretation of 2D and 3D seismic, synthetic seismogram ties, and time and depth map construction.
You will be mentored and supported by senior members of the team to develop your technical skills across a range of disciplines such as seismic acquisition, processing, rock physics, inversion, geostatistics, attribute analysis etc. As far as possible industry standard training will be offered on an annual basis and as necessary in relation to project work. As a growing oil operator, there is great potential for career progression and you will be expected to take on more responsibility over time.
Working within this close-knit team, you will need to have the ability to integrate well with their existing staff and contribute through a combined team effort. You will be required to travel to their international offices and operations sites.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Vice President, Geophysics, you will be expected to:
· Become competent in the software used by the Company, their work practices and processes.
· Build strong working relationships with the team players.
· Undertake the interpretation of 2D and 3D seismic
· Undertake synthetic seismogram generation and well tie resolution
· Fault interpretation and time map construction
· Velocity analysis and depth conversion
· Depth map preparation and initial volumetrics
· Assembly, loading and QC of data in preparation for interpretation projects
· Contribute to the mentoring of less experienced staff
· Assist in the preparation of written reports and presentations using PowerPoint
· Assist with the presentation of the material prepared to senior management and external agencies (farmees, partners, or governments.)
· Archive and index completed project work
· Assist with the preparation of seismic programs and tenders for acquisition and processing
· Assist with technical monitoring of ongoing seismic acquisition and processing projects and the compilation of reports on the results of this work
· Keep abreast of industry geophysical work practices and trends - be proactive in developing your technical and industry expertise
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and ambitious candidate with some geophysical interpretation experience, and the ambition to work hard and succeed working for an expanding oil operator.
Preferences: The successful candidate will have:
· First Degree essential in an earth science or geophysics discipline. Second degree (MSc) preferred
· Minimum of 3 years petroleum industry experience essential. Preferably working for an oil company.
· Experience in the interpretation of 2D and 3D seismic and synthetic seismogram ties essential.
· Proficient in time and depth map construction essential.
· Knowledge of geoscience applications (e.g. Petrel, SMT, SeisWorks, IESX etc.) highly advantageous.
· Some experience in one or more of the following: seismic acquisition, processing, rock physics and inversion or geostatistics and/or attribute analysis, highly desirable.
· Ambitious with the desire to expand your technical knowledge across a range of disciplines.
· The ability to mentor entry-level staff.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, essential.
· Self-motivated, able to act independently with minimum supervision while remaining a strong team player.
· Innovative thinker with the confidence to make recommendations.
· Proactive, flexible and enthusiastic - eager to succeed.
· Ability and willingness to travel
Package: A competitive oil company package, offering a Base Salary of circa £40K-£50K (GBP) plus company benefits including medical insurance, pension contribution, 25 days holiday etc.
