I have been working on embedded system designs for over 24 years. At present I am working at Surface Measurement Systems Ltd as Principal Embedded Systems Engineer. Logic and thoroughness are the two most important qualities to succeed in this area of technology. Therefore, how to make an embedded system more reliable, maintainable and extendable and how to complete a project within the R&D plan and time schedule are my top priorities. With this in mind, I have successfully designed a product: the Universal Control Board, which is the central driving technology of the latest instrument at SMS. It involves a large number of peripherals, such as double UARTs, double SPIs, TWI, ADC16/24, DAC16, CAN, TCP/IP and Dataflash as well as analog interfaces, e.g. temperature/RH sensors conditioning. The firmware is completely coded by C and Assembly (mainly used for the interrupt service). Having used Microprocessors since the 1980s for most of the products I designed, I have developed an interest in Microprocessor itself. As Cyan is a Microprocessor development based company, this is a very attractive opportunity for me to work closely with Microprocessor to develop my interest.
